Members of the Watchet Twinning Society were delighted to welcome a party of 43 visitors, of whom 17 were children, from Saint Renan, its twin-town in Brittany.

During the visit, which took place between April 6th and 10th, the group spent an interesting morning at Cleeve Abbey; walked over the moor to Oare Church following the story of Lorna Doone and paid a very enjoyable visit to the Cotleight Brewery in Wiveliscombe.  Other events included a reception with ceilidh at Knights Templar School and optional trips to Lynton and Lynmouth.

The final official dinner was attended by the Mayor of Watchet, Peter Murphy, who presented a special edition of Coleridge’s The Ancient Mariner to his French counterpart Gilles Mounier, Mayor of Saint Renan.

All who were concerned in the visit agreed that it had been very successful, helped by the excellent weather conditions which prevailed.  Members from Watchet are now looking forward to a return trip to Saint Renan next year.  New members wishing to join would be very welcome and can contact the Secretary on 01984 631280 for further information.
